Types of maceral (microscopically identifiable kerogen)

Types of maceral (microscopically identifiable kerogen)

1. inertite group consists of carbonized remains formed by rapid oxidation under aerobic conditions (peat-producing environments). Low H/C and O/C ratios

2. Vitrinite is preserved woody tissue derived from solidified humic gels.

3. Exinite includes lipid-rich materials derived from leaf, spores, pollen, algae, plant waxes, resins, fats, and oils.

4. Liptinites are derived primarily from algal remains and usually have higher H/C ratios than exinites.
